Air Advice

Your familys comfort and health are of foremost concern to Dyess Heating & Air, and it has only been in recent years that advanced studies have been performed to monitor and analyze indoor air quality.

The following indoor air quality facts and corresponding health information truly put into perspective just how easily we are all affected by these concerns even the most common of households:

COMMON SOURCES OF INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS:

  • DUST For every 1,500 square feet of space in your home, approximately 40 POUNDS of dust per year is generated!!!

  • DUST MITES Dust mites are a very common cause of household allergies, and over 40,000 individual dust mites exist in just one small ounce of dust!!!

  • POLLEN In our Southern region of the United States, trees and flowers are primary sources of pollen. Pine trees, most certainly abundant in our geographic region, is a main producer of pollen. Even if your home is not surrounded by a large amount of trees and flowers, the wind distributes pollen literally for miles from its source.

  • TOBACCO SMOKE there are over 4,000 compounds and chemical agents in tobacco smoke, many of which are powerful irritants, especially to children and people with respiratory problems.

  • COMMON ORDINATRY ACTIVIIES Daily household activities like cooking, cleaning, common chores, lawn maintenance and redecorating can spread air pollutants and irritants.

TIPS FOR HEALTHY INDOOR AIR QUALITY:

  • CONTROL DUST MITES Wash sheets, blankets, bed linens, and other regularly used fabric items that commonly inhibit dust mites regularly (once per week). Wash them in hot water (130 degrees recommended).

  • ELIMINATE MOLD SOURCES Repair any water leaks or leaky pipes and keep bathroom grout and fixtures clean.

  • CONTROL HUMIDITY Controlling household humidity can eliminate dust mites and control the growth of irritants like mildew. In addition, relative humidity of 30-50% is recommended for optimal home comfort as well as inhibits the growth and spread of dust mites and other irritants.

  • MAINTAIN PET BOUNDARIES Try to limit pets access to linens and furniture such as beds, couches, recliners, and sofas. Pet Dander often accumulates on these areas and spreads easily with human contact.

  • ELIMINATE INDOOR SMOKE Avoid non-ventilated and smoky rooms. Smoke contains thousands of air pollutants and irritants. Make sure that all smoke prone areas have an adequate ventilation system.
