Flush Away the Grime!

Spring is finally here and whether you’re ready or not, it is time for spring cleaning! Whether you’re dreading the cleaning process or are excited for a fresh start to the upcoming seasons, the benefits of giving your home a good, thorough cleaning are worth the time and sweat.

Part of this thorough cleaning includes your plumbing system and fixtures. The Dyess Air & Plumbing team is here to remind you what plumbing tasks should be added to your to-do list this spring to achieve a sparkling plumbing system from the inside out!

Drains

You may have noticed over the fall and winter months that your drains have begun to slow down and aren’t draining water as quickly as they should. If this is the case, spring cleaning is the perfect excuse to get them cleared again!

Bonus: you don’t have to do this task yourself! Give your plumber a call and schedule a drain cleaning appointment and they’ll take care of clearing any blockages in no time in a much safer way than corrosive, store bought drain cleaners which can damage your pipes.

Repairs

Who knew spring cleaning could include tasks other than cleaning?! While on the phone with your plumber, take this opportunity to schedule any and all repairs that you’ve been putting off.

From a leaking faucet to a faulty water heater, your plumber can do it all and you’ll be grateful to have those issues out of your hair.

Toilets

Many homeowners clean out their toilet bowl with a brush and call it a day, however your toilet requires a bit more cleaning attention. Be sure to clean under the seat and all around the tank. Then, using a disinfectant spray or wipes, clean the entire toilet, including the flusher and the base of the toilet.

With each flush, toilet water is spread from within the bowl, dropping bacteria on the nearest surfaces. This is why disinfectant spray is so important when cleaning your bathroom.

Washing Machine

Your washing machine may seem clean as it runs cycles of soapy water often. However, over time washing machines can develop buildup and smells that can affect the cleanliness of your laundry. Add a solution of water and white vinegar to the washing machine and run a normal cycle. This should disinfect and deodorize the machine.

We also recommend taking a sponge and soapy water to the seal and buttons of the machine to clean out any additional grime build-up. Finally, sweep along the sides and behind the washer and dryer. Excess lint and dust around these appliances can create a fire hazard and worsen indoor air quality.

Dishwasher

Much like your washing machine, your dishwasher may have become grimy and smelly from frequent use. Remove the filter from the bottom of the dishwasher and empty the bits of food into the garbage can. Rinse and gently clean the filter before replacing it.

To eliminate any unwanted smells, simply fill a cup with white vinegar, place it on the bottom rack of the dishwasher, and run a cycle!

Fixtures

It’s important to remember the details when spring cleaning, otherwise it would just be another day of chores! If your home has hard water, there is a good chance that your showerhead and faucets are showing signs of mineral build-up. This scaly material can affect water flow and is unpleasant to look at.

Scrub the mineral build-up away with a toothbrush and white vinegar to get those faucets shining once again!
